I would like to migrate

Not like geese etc but like a bloggy platform disloyalist (if that word exists): Blogger, you are too squeezy for me, too narrow; your columns on the only template I like (this one) are too broad and too narrow at the same time. I am dreaming of a place where it is wide and broad and the bad writing and out-of-focus pictures can spread like cheap dough to the very edges of the page.

I think the place exists and is called Wordpress, but I am scared (so very scared) of 'migrating' it all, even though I know that there will probably be a copy kept somewhere on the internets by Blogger, who will claim to be my friend even after I leave and then 'accidentally' lose all my posts about how much I hate Sting. I am alarmed at the idea of it all becoming upside down and having to wade through four (4) years of mediocre content just to tidy it up again. I am afraid that the only record in existence (and with that I include my very own brain) over the last four years may disappear into thin ice like this: pifffff!

So, friends, here are some questions that I would be very grateful for your ADVICE on/about:

1. Is it safe and easy and can I do it even though I am still not really sure what html is?
2. Is Wordpress the right place to go?
3. Will it bollocks everything up in a way that is amusing to fix in front of the TV, or in a way that will wish you had never even started the whole stupid thing?
4. Should I just stay here?
5. Does anyone actually give a monkey's arse?

I love you all, each and every one.

arses are not to be given lightly or something, but you can always do one over there on wordpress and keep this one just in case you decide you hate it...or not!

If you like this template, it should be easy enough to modify it to make the columns wider (see the html section under 'layout' in the blog's settings). I imagine this would be a much easier option than trying to migrate everything to Wordpress.

Actually, I've just had a look - one of the premade templates available is called Minima stretch - it's this template, but stretched across the page (rather than in one column). Maybe this is a better option for you?

I tried wordpress but it was nightmare for me. I couldn't figure out how to use the options and it was all very confusing. I find blogger easier to use, which is why I stay here.

But if you go, I shall follow! *bursts into song*

I did it, I fled to Wordpress and it's worked for me. You could give it a go and see - and then come running back to Blogger if it disappoints. It's very easy, just one flip of a massive red lever and everything you knew here, will be over there.

Good luck.

There are loads of other templates out there that work for blogger, but are not the standard set offered by blogger... Maybe you might find one that you like that doesn't require that you migrate (which may or may not be problematic)...

This site has some nice templates: http://www.ourblogtemplates.com/

I'm currently using one of their templates, but i'm still with blogger... But if you do decide to migrate, I'm sure it won't be a problem... loads of people do it every day!

I have no views worth anything on different blogging platforms, but perhaps you could start a "Chase the Monkey" game, moving from site to site, leaving tantalisingly witty and educational clues for your loyal admirers to follow through the jungle of the Internet (the last one standing gets devoured by a minotaur).

Anonymous - you are most kind of all - I had looked and looked but not seen it. I am hugely grateful as this is EXACTLY what I was thinking.

I kiss you all.
