I am to be married

Utterly preposterous in all the ways, I am sure you will agree, but rather delightful also. It is quite the story, I must admit.

Regular readers may be aware that I met the person I am marrying (a French Canadian veterinary research histopathologist who cuts his own hair) because of - and entirely because of - this web-blog or, rather more accurately perhaps, originally via my original web-blog (gauche, yes; far too many ghastly Random Capitalisations, certainly, but rather funny here and there!).

You may read about our first date here. The rest is also a good story, but I have never told it directly. It is the sort of story that makes single ladies in their early 30s (I am 39) go all wet-eyed and say, I have hope again!

I rather think I might tell it, as well as (of course) keeping every single one of you very much "au courant" with every development viz. sugared almonds, tiaras, ghastly string quartets, menus involving chicken OR salmon, etc.

Pip Pip!

Wow, I never woulda thunk it!

Many Congratulations to you Both.

I always think getting wed is such a personal thing to decide on - either you're for it or agin it. This is so obviously the right person for you, ooh I'm sooo pleased!

(this is from someone who married the Right Person at age 17, and still married 34 years later.)

I am most pleased for both you and the veterinary pathologist. Congratulations to you both, and never underestimate the power of a monkey ice sculpture.

Will I have to buy a hat?

I wouldn't say "utterly preposterous". After all, we're never gonna survive unless we get a little crazy. Hang on, now I'm going to get sued by a musical pinniped. Don't read this.

Dan: who are you, and what do you want?

MM: No, unless you would like to. I will be riding into town on two donkeys, one foot on each, so perhaps you could take your 'cues' from that snippet of information?

Thanks everyone else.

Many happy and jolly congratulations to you and the histopathologist. I had a big smile reading this post, and I don't know you from Adam.
I harbour a secret desire to marry a Canadian myself. I don't know any of them however, nor do I have a blog, so this notion may remain so much jiggery pokery.
Can't wait for detailed posts concerning sugared almonds and table settings etc.

Congratulations, that's wonderful news. And yes, we do want to hear both the rest of the story and all the details of the wedding plans.

How utterly marvellous! Hooray!

Congratulations and best wishes to both of you! And yes, please, more details! Those of us who live vicariously through others really NEED to know this stuff!

Old dears of an age to be your mother also like to read good and hopegiving (if not to us) stories, so I would like you to.

And congratulations to your lucky histopathologist and best wishes to both of you.

I'd hoped she'd elope.

Sugared almonds? I thought they were for christenings in France. Obviously, I have a lot to learn. And I'm not sure I want to.

When we eloped, my mother was holding the ladder.

Congratulations!

I, too, look forward to reading every development. If only to have some experience of marrying the right person as opposed to the huge mistake I married.

Vis-a-vis the need for a hat, be sure to investigate Canadian wedding tradtions BEFORE the ceremony. I'm just sayin'...

oh besty best of luck to you both!

Yippee!! Just did a little monkey dance around my (non-working) desk. It seems strange to be so happy for a monkey I have never met. Who knows, you may not be a monkey at all, but a lizard (or something) pretending to be a monkey.

Anyway, am very VERY happy for you, so, again..

Yippee!!

Loverly! Have you been sprinkling hints throughout the last several posts? So would a sharp-eyed reader, for instance, have seen a preview of the wedding gown? Will you be honey-mooning (what a horrible phrase...) doing population counts of endangered fish in Canadian waterways? Shall the attendants all be shaved and dyed in the likeness of the Ninja Turtles?

If so, the world needs pictures - many, many, many pictures.

oh... also - congratulations!

monkeynuptials! oh wow! do we get a view of your engagement ring? or are you a non-ring type person?

as someone who is classified as an old dear, i wanna hear about EVERY BLOODY STEP!!

including how you knew you WERE a monkey, PLEASE! that bothers me a little......

Thank you for your comments, dear readers. Ring conversation thus (truncated version):

Him: i wondered if you would like to get married.
Me: Did you just propose? (astonished, like I have seen Celine Dion eating a bacon sandwich and watching Coronation Street)
Him: Yes.
(silence)
Me: Yes please.
Him: I don't have a ring or anything like that.
Me: Oh! (brightly, like I am on speed). OK!
(Time passes. It is next morning)
Me: I've just remembered, I've got my grandmother's ring in the drawer.
Him: Yes. I thought you did.

Big congratulations Mrs Pathologist!! Living proof that the internet dating works

NON-WORKINGMONKEY said...

Had we met through internet dating, it would indeed be proof.

But we didn't, so it isn't.

But that isn't to say that internet dating doesn't work, because it does. Fact. (Not one that is proven by my own circumstance, but a fact nonetheless.)

Z said...

My son and Dilly did. It was love at first sight and they married the next year and Dilly is perfect. Fact indeed.
