The photograph is accompanied by a mysterious note from Lesley.
"I've no idea why he's sitting on the corner on the top of a building in Toulouse, but he is lovely don't you think?"
Yes, dear Lesley, I do. I do indeed. He reminds me of happier days; days when I too had the leisure to sit with one barefooted leg lying across the other, wearing enormous top hats. Those days are, for the moment, over (despite the fact that I remain essentially non-working in my heart); but when I am feeling worn down by thoughts of status reports and timing plans, I shall look at this monkey and feel for my top hat.

And such a good photograph, too! It only remains for me to say: Congratulations, Lesley!

This is my favourite splendid Monkey Picture of them all. I, too, am yearning for those days and find this picture very evocative.
I wish I were there. On that rooftop with that monkey. He looks like great fun.
I thought my monkey picture was rather splendid but it didn't receive such effulgent publicity. :(
No no, Nichola. You see, it works like this: I decide which monkeys are splendid, based on how much they amuse me or, indeed, make me happy. It also depends on what time they come into my inbox, and what state of mind I am in when they come in. It is an inaccurate science. Indeed, it is not a science at all. I just see how I feel and act accordingly. It's BRILLIANT, and perhaps the only environment in which I am entirely able to act completely on my feelings without any true regard for anyone else!
Ms B - I know. He is utterly splendid. Magnificent, in fact.
Nichola - I sent in a picture of a monkey with an enormous...well, never mind. I spent days working on it, yet it never saw the light of day here. But NWM is the final arbiter, so we must bow to her wisdom. *sniff*
Yes, ok, it was pretty crap really. And she did publish my Dutch Monkey.
Life is tough, my friends.
I am in luuurv!
Splendid, Yes!
I'm still waiting for my donation of an excellent album cover by the little known 'Trazane & ~Banarne'- also rejected. This monkey person is a fickle beast indeed and not unlike the macaque which, once food has been sniffed, is known to discard it randomly regardless of its aroma.
Minty. Just you wait. Oh, just you wait. What you have done there is pre-empt AN ENTIRE POST. T&B are more than just associated with monkeys in a vague kind of way. Oh no. (Did you get the chocolate shoes?) I sniffed my pasta earlier. It wasn't good.
I have a sad monkey photo which will touch your heart when I get it off my camera. It may even cause a tear to well
How about monkey vids? Have you seen this one of a monkey bathing a cat??

I thought it was rather splendid myself.

Most excellent! I was thinking of you today NWM. Was in a frame shop and they had Monkey pens where the arms and legs moved as you wrote! Would have mailed it to you but the shipping cost is high from the colonies to you.
On the subject of splendid monkeys, although paling in comparison with the fine fellow in this post, I can proffer the following:

Quite the little scamp, I'm sure you will agree. I can't claim credit for anything other than noticing him while purchasing the Long Playing album that he adorns. I am guessing that some copyright issues will prevent entry in the Splendid Monkey Gallery but I thought you might enjoy him.
Now it's getting spooky:

I'm glad to hear it's a crossed leg, but life is more fun without me specs on.
Aw poor you NWM, hopefully this wee foray in the Netherlands will fund lots of lazy days to come.
I need to study more closely the Sacred Texts of Splendiferousmonkeyology.
I really don't have anything to add. I just thought it's a while since I spoke & thought I'd interject to the effect that I am still alive - albeit also rather conspicuously working rather more than hitherto.
