Downstairs in our very house is the father of a member of Il Divo*. He is very handsome (although quite old), and I cannot look at him. He is watching a DVD of Genesis tribute bands with my father. There is a voting system in place, for tonight we must Choose a Genesis Tribute Band! Will it be Peter Gabriel era, or Phil Collins era? I am strongly of the opinion that all Genesis is awful, but Phil Collins-era Genesis contains fewer thirty minute instrumentals. Otherwise, I have learnt that the best Genesis tribute band is from the Canada, and am eating nuts and looking at the fire.
These are dark days indeed. And yet every time I think about what is happening underneath my very feet (for I have crept up the stairs with a geeentoneeek), I become mildly hysterical. But laugh I cannot, at least until he is Gone, and the Choice Made.
* Italian for 'the Divs', as someone much funnier than me once said.

Best Genesis Tribute Band? Isn't that like Best Karaoke Singer? wtf cares? Apart from the gents downstairs, obv.
Only Genesis track I really enjoyed was Return of the Giant Hogweed. Sounded complicated, but then I am not Musical.
Enjoy the G&T and Happy Holiday (Pastafarian style)!
My dear Monkey, have read you blog from day 1 but alas have never left a comment...until now...just read the last three posts an you just crack me up.....just keep 'em coming....all the best for Christmas and the new year...xxx
Perhaps I should not admit to this, but...I once went to a concert hall, wherein with a throng of other concert-hall goers I watched a movie, which featured an entire concert played by a Genesis tribute band.
Yes, a movie of a tribute band.
And now for the worst part: I thought it was fucking brilliant.
I think that the only reason I am opening myself up to public ridicule is that I have a trump card, namely that Take That video you put up here mere days ago.
I like you johnnyboy...such confessions deserve my wholehearted support. (Can you still get a copy of the movie, what was it called, etc, etc? You see I can't feign disinterest any more)
I have never seen the point of Genesis, let alone Genesis Tribute bands. Indeed, the idea of a Genesis Tribute seems to be some kind of oxymoron.
I stand by Take That. I won't have a word said against them. I won't. Well I will, but not against their smash hit single, "Patience". As to the rest, at least it wasn't a Yes tribute band. Now that really would have got Monkeypappa's dogs barking.
I thought Yes was its' own tribute band...
Merry Christmas~
Oh, I loathe Yes even more than I do Genesis (well, Close to the Edge Side 2 is OK). MF is clearly a man after my own heart.
(Don't even mention Berkley James Harvest......)
Dear monkeypapa,
you're a true renaissance man. The band is Musical Box, its members are all (what else ?) french canadians, and the concert was a re-creation of the Foxtrot show. The movie might still be available, but the band is still touring internationally, so you could actually catch them live. Their last show in Montreal was mere weeks ago, and they played the Bell Center, an amphitheater frequented by the likes of the Rolling Stones (which I wouldn't be caught dead seeing, by the way).
Little did we know that only a few years later, we would be crammed together at the Bell Center watching Musical Box, all together.
